ECA MEETINGS

The next ECA meeting, at 7:00 on Monday, September 20th, will include two presentations.

One will be about a proposed 5K race for the Metropolitan Branch Trail. For more info, contact Cristina.

The other will be about the city's plans for developing the historic McMillan Sand Filtration site on North Capitol Street.

At this point, plan to meet at the North Capitol Main Street office at 1703 North Capitol Street, NE – but watch for announcements (or a sign on the door) in case we are able to regain our former space at the Harry Thomas Recreation Center around the corner at 1743 Lincoln Road.

ECA's October meeting, on Monday the 18th, will include a presentation from the ASPIRE project, which is part of the “Triumph Over Stroke” program. The November meeting will occur on Monday, November 15th.

COALTION FOR VOTER EMPOWERMENT

COVE is a community of neighborhood civic associations who have created a forum for voters to engage in substantive dialogue with candidates running for DC public office.

Over the upcoming weeks, you will have the opportunity to be a part of an interview with many of the leading and not-so-leading candidates for office. This is a critical election year, and in today's economy, being engaged in the process is the best way ensure the city is being governed by competent, committed public servants who understand whom they work for.

The COVE interviews are not the typical political debate-style forums – the “gotcha” politics and reporting that is so common today. Instead, COVE Candidate Interviews are designed to give the voter an intimate look at candidates through thoughtful and relevant questions about our neighborhoods specifically and the greater Washington community at large.

Already, several candidates have been interviewed, and many audience members have gained new and helpful insights about candidates which will aid them in their decision-making process.

Come out and check out these candidates, get answers to questions you want answered, and be informed. Your vote is your power.

Bloomingdale Farmers Market

Bloomingdale Farmers Market – open Sundays 10:00 to 2:00 from mid-May to mid-November – isn't in Eckington, but right next door (one block into Bloomingdale). Ted McGinn played a major role in its establishment and has worked doggedly to ensure its success every year. A healthy percentage of the BFM's regular patrons – including some of its most enthusiastic supporters – are on this side of North Capitol Street. We regard it as a beloved step-child, hoping it will continue to thrive where it is, but ready to welcome it with open arms should it ever want for a loving home.

HOW THE ORGANIZATION STARTED, AND WHAT HAS HAPPENED ALONG THE WAY

At this point, only the long version of ECA's history is available. Hey, editing takes time.
